Overview
The Sheet Metal Mechanic performs structural repairs, fabrication, and modifications on aircraft and aircraft components in accordance with FAA regulations, OEM technical data, company procedures, and Part 145 Repair Station requirements. This role supports heavy maintenance, modifications, and return-to-service activities while ensuring all work meets quality, safety, and regulatory standards.

The Sheet Metal Mechanic performs structural repairs, fabrication, and modifications on aircraft and aircraft components in accordance with FAA regulations, OEM technical data, company procedures, and Part 145 Repair Station requirements. This role supports heavy maintenance, modifications, and return-to-service activities while ensuring all work meets quality, safety, and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Turboprop aircraft modifications
- Antenna, doubler, and SATCOM modifications and removals.
- Perform fabrication, repair, replacement, and installation of aircraft sheet metal structures including skins, ribs, spars, bulkheads, floors, frames, and flight control components.
- Read, interpret, and follow OEM technical manuals, structural repair manuals (SRM), engineering drawings, blueprints, and repair instructions.
- Lay out and develop work dimensions using precision measuring tools, shop math, and layout techniques.
- Cut, shape, form, bend, drill, countersink, ream, rivet, and assemble sheet metal parts using hand and power tools.
- Perform structural modifications and repairs in accordance with FAA regulations, Part 145 procedures, and approved engineering data.
- Use precision equipment such as calipers, micrometers, rivet gauges, and measuring tapes to verify dimensions and tolerances.
- Replace or install fasteners including solid rivets, blind rivets, hi-loks, cherrymax, and specialty fasteners as required.
- Apply and remove sealants, adhesives, primers, corrosion inhibitors, and protective coatings when required by the repair process.
- Assist with removal and installation of aircraft components, panels, floors, and structural assemblies.
- Document all work performed in accordance with FAA and Part 145 documentation standards, including accurate logbook, work order, and repair entries.
- Ensure all parts, materials, and tooling are properly identified, controlled, and traceable.
- Follow company safety policies, hazardous material procedures, and quality standards at all times.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of aircraft sheet metal or structures experience preferred (Part 145 or heavy maintenance environment strongly preferred).
- Turboprop aircraft experience a preferred
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, SRMs, AMMs, IPCs, and work instructions.
- Strong knowledge of aircraft structural repair techniques, fasteners, corrosion control, composite basics, and sealing procedures.
- Ability to complete a pre-employment Criminal Background Check, and standard FAA DOT drug test.
- Valid Drivers License
